2007 Hinton Public School Computer Policy
Purpose
Hinton Public School recognises technology has a profound impact on the world in which we live. The ability to access, analyse and evaluate information, using technology is an essential part of teaching and student learning.
Aim
· Development of technology and information skills to enable confidence in the use computers as a powerful teaching and learning tool.
· Integrate the use of technology across all KLA’s, emphasizing communication, thinking, problem solving and basic skills.
Implementation
· Ensure staff have access to professional development programs in the area of technology through peer-tutoring, mentoring programs as well as regular staff meetings. To ensure staff are trained and skilled in the use of technology in teaching and learning programs.
· Establish a planned sequence of outcomes for students’ technology skills.
· Students’ access to technology is equitable.
· Use of a range of software to ensure all students and staff become skilled in the use of word processing, data base, spreadsheets, email and the Internet.
· Use of a range of educationally based software programs to develop communication, thinking and problem-solving skills.
· Instruct students and staff in the use of devices such as the scanner, digital camera and video camera and other peripheral devices that become available.
· Ensure keyboarding skills are progressively taught to students.
· Re-assess student and staff skills level, making appropriate adjustments to teaching and learning programs.
· Participate in curriculum development to ensure the incorporation of technology across the KLA’s.
· Regular audits of technology across the school to ensure equipment is running effectively.
Evaluation
· Computer Education Outcomes effectively meet individual student needs.
· There is progression in the student’s abilities in the use of the various programs taught.
· Effective incorporation of technology into teaching and learning as evidenced in student and teacher documentation.
Code of Conduct for General Computer Use
The school has endeavoured to ensure that all students’ work can be saved, stored and accessed in a secure manner. It is expected that all students will respect the right of other students to use the network resources.
It is expected that all students will respect that the Information Technology Equipment with which they have been provided, and realise that using this equipment is a privilege, not a right. This privilege can be withdrawn if students do not follow the code of conduct.
For the benefit of all users, students are expected to observe the following;
· Log in using your own appropriate Username. It is never acceptable to use someone else’s Username.
· Use computers and associated technology for the purpose directed by the teacher in charge. Students are not to play games or other software unless directed by their teacher.
· Students are not to tamper with settings on the computer.
· Floppy disks and other external saving devices must be shown and checked by the supervising teacher before use.
· Computers must only be used under teacher supervision or with teacher permission.
· Students should report any faults or concerns to the supervising teacher, who will then forward any relevant information to the Computer Co-ordinator.
· Students must keep passwords secret.
· It is unacceptable to gain access to another person’s password or area within the network.
· Students are expected to use the printers for school purposes only, unless specific permission is granted.
· Students are not permitted to load personal software onto any school computer, nor copy software from the school system.
· Students will not disclose any personal information of any nature to outside sources.
· Students are expected to adhere to guidelines covering access to Web Services, notably emailing.
· Student photographs and work samples will not be published without parental permission.
Responsibilities
The Principal, with the Computer Coordinator, will co-ordinate administration and management of all technology resources.
The Computer Coordinator will establish the scope and sequence of skills to be taught across all Stages in accordance with the Outcomes outlined in all KLA’s.
The Computer Coordinator, in conjunction with staff, will establish the opportunity for Professional Development in the form of inservicing, staff meetings, peer tutoring and mentoring.
The Computer Coordinator will inservice staff on new software and hardware as it becomes available in the school.
Students will gain access to regular computer lessons with both the designated Computer teacher, and their class teacher.
