Lockdown Policy
 
Lock Down Signal: Bells ring intermittently for 2 minutes (approx 8 cycles - 10 seconds on, 5 seconds off). Walkie Talkies are used to alert other staff.
No child to be sent out to ring the bells.
 
If Inside
 
  •       All staff, students and visitors remain indoors, where they are until the level of danger is determined.
  •      Staff to lock all doors, windows and pull down blinds if equipped. Check storerooms, withdrawal rooms and wet areas.
  •       Children to sit close to the teacher or where directed by the teacher (preferably away from windows and doors.)
  •       Teacher to mark the roll. (Rolls can be found in Evacuation file near the door)
  •       Contact office with walkie-talkies to report children locked down and any children or adults missing or added to room.
  •      Only a member of school staff, executive (Principal / Assistant Principal) or emergency service to enter classrooms, canteen, library or office to give the all clear.
 
 
If Outside
 
  •      All staff, children and visitors to go inside to their own classroom except duty teacher who is to remain on duty in clear view until playground is clear.
  •       Duty teacher to check childrens’ toilets, proceed to classroom then follow lockdown procedure.
  •       Duty teacher has discretion to send children to where it is safe.
  •        If teacher is late to class, buddy teacher to take both classes.
  •        Return to step one and follow lockdown procedures for inside.
 
 
Notification of when to Lockdown
 
  •        Intermittent bells are ringing or
  •        Red card has been received into the office or
  •        Office has been notified to ring 112 or 000 or 
  •       Staff member has dialled, 112 or 000 emergency services.
