Stamps are awarded on the basis of application, attitude and aptitude toward all areas of school life.
Any achievements – academic, cultural, sporting or involving good citizenship are recognised.
Each class teacher maintains their own recording schedule for their students.

Each teacher will recognise outstanding children, during the weekly school assembly, by presenting Merit Awards. These Merit Awards reflect outstanding attitude, aptitude and application towards classroom and/or school activities or citizenship.

Teachers’ records will form the basis of a Semester “Winner’s Day”.
The 5 children in each class with the highest score will participate in a “Winner’s Day” treat (to be determined by the staff). This occurs at the end of each Semester.
Each Semester is treated separately, however, a total of stamps will be kept and the student’s with an overall highest stamp number will be awarded a Gold Certificate at the final School Assembly.

Each student is presented with a special school Merit Certificate.
Each class is entitled to 4 book prizes, based on the 3 A’s – application, attitude and aptitude.
Book vouchers are presented to the students at the Presentation Night.

 Hinton Public School Consequence System
The school reserves the right to contact the parents at any time to discuss a student's behaviour.
In addition:
  • for aggressive and/or violent behaviour, parents(or emergency carers) will be contacted and a behaviour plan will be worked out.
  • a student could be removed from the playground if circumstances warrant it and for the safety of themselves and other children.
Yellow Slip Discipline Code:
  • fighting and/or aggressive behaviour will warrant a yellow slip and in extreme cases, parents will be informed.

As a result of rule breaking, including:

  • Repeatedly disrupting lessons
  • Disobedience, insolence, intimidation
  • Persistently being in the wrong place
  • Disriminatory and/or bullying behaviour
  • Swearing in class/playground
  • Being rude and/or disrespectful to teachers/visitors and bus drivers
  • Wilful damage of property
  • Dangerous play

a Yellow Slip will be issued.

The yellow slip system works in a five week cycle or one half term cycle. After five weeks the student reverts back to zero yellow slips to try again…we all make mistakes!

Repeat offenders will be identified at the end of each term and reviewed for further assistance from the Learning Support Team.

One yellow slip
Walk with the teachers on duty for one lunchtime (if the child is involved in an organised day and is on a yellow slip, it will be at the discretion of the Learning Support Team if the child ios to attend).
Two yellow slips
Walk with the teachers on duty for two lunchtimes.
Three yellow slips
Walk with the teachers on duty for three lunchtimes. Letter posted home to request a parent interview.
Four yellow slips
Loss of privileges (in-school detention). Sit outside the staffroom all recesses and lunchtimes for one week (5 school days – no away from school excursions during this time).
In-school suspension exclude the student from participating in any school activity, such as, excursions, special events/activites (including sporting events) outside of normal lessons.

Suspension and Expulsion:
The Department of Education and Training provides a guideline for the suspension and/or expulsion of a student.
The procedures are only used as a last resort when a student's behaviour is so unacceptable that it is in the best interests of the school and/or student to remove the student from the school, for a period of time or completely.
The high standard of students behaviour at Hinton PS means that these procedures are rarely used.
