Welcome to STLA

 What is STLA?

STLA stands for Support Teacher Learning Assistant. (Miss Harris)

What is involved?

The STLA works with a number of students from Years kinder to 6 who need extra assistance in reading, writing, comprehension and maths. During term 1 the program has focused on students in years 3 & 5 but will encompass a new group of students after NAPLAN has been completed. It is usually 1-on-1 or in a small group situation. The particular student may be withdrawn from the classroom to work in the withdrawal room adjacent to each classroom or in the library. The STLA may also provide support within the student's classroom as requested by  the classroom teacher for activities such as reading groups.

What are the benefits?

Extra assistance and guidance from the STLA helps to improve literacy levels and can give the student the confidence they need to strive in the classroom.

What can I do to help?

Whether your child is on the STLA program or not, it is important that they are exposed to literacy at home. *Encourage your child not only to read but enjoy reading*
